About this place

Bishan Rock is located on Bishan Mountain in Neihu. The temple is dedicated to Chen Yuanguang, the national hero of the founding of Fujian, and his two generals Li Boyao and Ma Ren. Chen Yuanguang opened up the Zhangzhou area in Fujian Province at the end of the Tang Dynasty. He was regarded as the patron saint of Zhangzhou people and was honored as the "King of Kai Zhang". Bishanyan is one of the largest Kaizhang Shengwang temples in Taiwan and is very popular. Legend has it that when Huang, a man from Zhangzhou Prefecture, crossed the sea to Taiwan with his family to cultivate land, he saw that this place was a rare and auspicious place, so he hung the incense stick with him in the cave to worship before leaving. Later, bandits were rampant in the lower part of the mountain. They were robbing homes and houses, making the people there miserable. In 1751 AD, when the bandits were about to attack the top, they suddenly saw sharp lights and war drums beating on the top of the mountain. It turned out that the sacred incense stone hung at that time was divided into three parts. The middle piece was the Holy King, and the stones on both sides were Generals Li and Ma. The surrounding stones rolled down the mountain, causing the bandits to abandon their weapons and flee. After hearing the news, nearby residents came to worship here. As expected, the gods blessed him, so they built a small stone temple. Later, due to the increasing number of pilgrims, the original small stone temple was not enough for a large number of pilgrims to worship, so a new main temple was built on the original site. Then there were several natural disasters. After several renovations, with the efforts of many local people, believers and temple management committee members, it was expanded to the present day.
