About this place
Walk through Dalong Street and come to the Confucius Temple. The Confucius Temple is dedicated to worshiping the greatest teacher in China, Confucius, the sage of Dacheng, as well as the sages and Confucian scholars of the past dynasties. Since Confucius advocated simplicity, the architecture of the Confucius Temple is relatively simple and plain. Unlike other temples that have gorgeous decorations, and there are no stone lions at the door. The Confucius Temple is dominated by the Dacheng Hall. Standing outside the Dacheng Hall, you can see a pair of cylinders on the roof in the middle, called "Sutra Storage Tubes." In ancient Chinese history, Qin Shihuang implemented a policy of obscuring the people in order to facilitate his rule. He burned books and killed scholars. At that time, in order to preserve the books, the scholars built a chimney-like library on the roof and hid the books there to avoid the fate of being burned. Therefore, the Confucius Temple also built a scripture tube to express admiration for the book-loving spirit of the scholars at that time. At the same time, on the roof in front, there is a carving of an owl. The owl is an unfilial and cruel bird, but Confucius also educated it. Therefore, the owl sculpture represents Confucius's spirit of "teaching without discrimination".
