About this place
Maokong is located in the southwest of Getou Mountain in Muzha District, a suburb of Taipei. The word "Maokong" is related to the valley topography in the tea research center area. When the stream carries a large amount of sand and gravel over the years, a round or oval cave is formed on the stream bed. It is called "pot cave" in geology and "pot cave" in Hokkien. "Liaokang" (meaning a wrinkled pothole), it was not until the Japanese colonial era that it was renamed "Maokong" with a similar pronunciation; however, today's Maokong later developed into a very special tea tourism industry due to its proximity to the student activities area of National Chengchi University, and student nightlife promoted regional prosperity.
