About this place

Maokong is located in the Muzha area of Wenshan District, Taipei City, on the upper reaches of Jingmei Creek and on the south bank of Nanjing Creek. It belongs to the Erge Mountain System on the southern edge of the Taipei Basin. It is the southernmost tip of Taipei City and adjacent to Xindian District, New Taipei City. Close to National Chengchi University and Guide Scenic Area. There are different opinions on the origin of the place name Maokong. The most common theory is that it comes from the special "pot hole" riverbed landscape. Due to the uneven hardness of the geology, the "pot hole" terrain of pits and holes was formed after being washed by the river. The local people called it "ㄋㄧㄠ γ„Žγ„€". During the Japanese occupation, the name "Maokong" was recorded and passed down. The Tie Guanyin produced in Maokong is famous far and wide, and it has rich cultural history and natural ecological landscape. It is located on the outskirts of Taipei and the terrain is relatively high. The bamboo and cypress path, Huxue Suspension Bridge, camphor tree trail, etc. belong to the seventh section of the "Taipei Great Longitudinal Walk". It is a good place for urbanites, hikers and domestic and foreign tourists to go hiking in the mountains, drink tea, watch the stars and the moon, and overlook the city's night view.
